When it comes to skincare, you have to be careful and choose your products according to your skin type. Some may benefit from specific treatments, sera or masks. However, three steps are essential for all skin types (cleansing, toning and moisturizing) and, to be effective, they must be done correctly.
Here are some tips I learned that could benefit any skin type:
How to clean your skin?
Clean your face twice a day, every day, every day, but do not use harsh cleaners. Although cleansing is an essential step in skin care because it eliminates microbes, dust and excess foundation, some filters can be too hard and can end up compromising the thin film that protects the skin - the acid coating. When the acid mantle is compromised, it makes the skin vulnerable to several skin disorders.
Do not use cleaners that contain surfactants and leave your skin clean and dry, like most foam cleaners.
Here are some excellent cleansers to try: Acure Organics Sensitive Sensitive Facial Cleanser Sensitive Argan Oil + Probiotic (available from Whole Foods), Pai Camellia & Gentle Rose Hydrating Cleanser, and opacity Gentle Rejuvenating Cleanser
Why use a tonic?
Using a balancing tonic helps the skin to adjust quickly and restore its pH and prevents dry skin from becoming more dehydrated and oily skin from becoming greasy.
Make sure you have removed the cleanser from your skin with a warm, damp towel, then dry your face by gently dabbing it. Spray your face with your vaporizer or apply the toner with a soaked cotton pad, but be sure to pat it all over your face gently.
Here are some excellent tonics that I used, and I find useful: YULI Cocoon Facial Elixir (ideal for sensitive and delicate skin), Kahina Giving Beauty Toning Mist (for combination skin), Vered Organic Herbal Botanicals Herb-Infused Toner (for skin with imperfections) and Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Vitamin D Face Mist (for dry skin) . A face mist prepares the skin for the next step in your care, your hydration, face oil or serum.
Why incorporate facial oil into your skincare routine?
Facial oils have become very popular lately, as most people learn the benefits. Whatever your skin type, you can use and benefit from oils, even if your skin is oily.
The best way to apply them is after cleansing and toning, while your skin is still wet. Rub a few drops of oil into the palm of your hands, then gently pat your skin until it is evenly spread, instead of rubbing.
If you have combination or oily skin, use try argan oil, which has been shown in a study to regulate sebum. If you have dry skin, prefer trymarula oil. If you have ageing or sun-damaged skin, try Rosehip Oil.
How to treat his eye area?
This is something I would have liked to have learned when I was younger. The skin around the eyes is thinner than the rest of the face and is more delicate.
When you apply your product to the eyes, be it a cream, a gel or a serum, make sure to be very gentle and use only your ring finger to massage the area because it is usually the weakest finger and therefore softer. Apply the product on the skin or make a gentle massage. If you choose to massage, be sure to press inwards (under the eyes) to the nose and out on the top of the eyes (counterclockwise) as this improves the circulation.
